    • E.g. Putting on own shoes,  feeding self, carrying own bag
  • Accept your children as they are
  • Focus on their strengths, not their weaknesses, and their strengths will grow
  • Encourage children to make choices (stacked choices)
  • Ask children for ideas and suggestions
  • Respect child’s privacy
  • Involve child with household chores
  • Do jobs with your children
  • Avoid giving children responsibility they are not ready to handle
  • Spend time with your children
    • Special time with each child
    • Spend time with your family
  • Model good self-esteem to child
  • Let child know what you like and appreciate about her

  • Praise frequently and be SPECIFIC
  • Talk to your child/toddler about things they did when younger
  • Give constructive criticism
